It might seem like just yesterday was a hot, humid summer day, and now we’re looking at snow in the future forecast and already planning our New Year’s Resolutions! Alright, some of us might not be planning that far in advance, but you get the drift. If you’re a fan of Pinterest or decor magazines (go ahead and raise your hand), you’ve probably been seeing 2018 home and fashion trends popping up. We decided to go through and make our expert predictions on what will be hot in home design trends this upcoming year.

Firstly, it looks like the hot colors this year will be pretty muted and inspired by nature. Very cool tones that will bring tranquility and calm into your space, including shades of blue, green, gray, light pinks, tan and purple. These colors are soothing and restorative, meaning your home will be your sanctuary and place to take a moment from your stressful, busy life to relax. Another nice feature of these colors are the fact that they are super versatile and perfect for both interior and exterior projects, and matches with so many colors and design styles, from traditional, modern, to coastal and global.

Earthy tones are also hot if you’re not a fan of the cool tones, from olive-browns to rich greens. And a trend that we don’t see going anywhere, anytime soon, is gray. Pure gray, purple gray, blue gray, green gray, they’re all popular and they’re all on the list for 2018.

You can use these shades to create a mindful space, perfect for awareness and providing a place that balances our busy life activities, reduce stress and remind us of the moments of joy in our lives. Yes, that might sound a bit dramatic when we’re just talking about a color, but these shades have the power to create calm. At least it does for us!

Another color trend that will be hot this year is accents. Whether it be a pop of color in your home decor or painting a wall a vibrant color, accents are a great way to add interest and create a maximum impact. Not ready to pull the plug and make a major color change inside your house? Try painting the front door! It adds great curb appeal and will freshen the look of the whole house in just a matter of minutes.

Speaking of painting your door, a trend making a huge statement for the interior of your home is painting your doors black! If you’re someone with kids, this might seem extra appealing to you, say good bye to finger prints and drawings!

When it comes to home decor, jewel toned furniture looks to be popular this year, from chairs to pillows and candles, decor is a great way to add a pop of color and interest in a room without the commitment of painting a wall a vibrant color.

Natural wood and drift wood are hitting the market hard in 2018, from cabinets to tables and dressers, you’ll see the light natural wood sweeping the nation, especially in a contemporary setting.

So there you have it, a quick look at some of the color trends for 2018 that we’ve been noticing and loving. Do you plan on integrating any of these trends into your home? If so, what trends are you loving and what trends do you hope fizzle out quickly? Pinterest has 70 million users worldwide, and we at RIGGS understand why Pinterest has become so popular. It is a great tool for organizing recipes, discovering trends and getting inspired. As much as we love Pinterest and see how helpful it can be in home remodeling projects, it can also be overwhelming for you and your home remodeler. Here are a few tips for using Pinterest for your next home remodel project.

Narrow down what you like. Pinterest is a great way to help you determine what things you like, but make sure you are consistent. Often times people will show us multiple pictures of rooms that are completely different and say that’s what they want. What is it about each room that you like? There is usually one feature, whether that is a color, a cabinet or a fireplace that is consistent in all the pictures. Determine what it is about each image you like before going into your meeting with your remodeler.

Be mindful of your budget. You might fall in love with something you see on Pinterest, but it’s important to remember your planned budget. Pinterest can be a dangerous friend when it comes to blowing your budget.

Be flexible. You might fall in love with a color, a countertop or a specific product that you have seen on Pinterest, but if it is not named in the description, we cannot guarantee we will find the exact same product or it might no longer be available. If you are flexible, we can find a similar product you are sure to love.

Take time to design. The design processes can be lengthy, but the more time spent on a design will make the project go smoother, stay true to the budget and the timeline go faster. So go ahead, spend time on Pinterest, Houzz or home remodeling websites.

Be inspired! Pinterest is great for inspiration. We love when clients come to us with ideas and knowing what direction they want to go with their remodel. It’s helpful to create separate boards for different rooms in the house or for specific trends you love.

Be sure to follow us on Pinterest to see what trends we are loving and some of our recent remodel projects!

Almost exactly one year ago, we joined the wonderful world of Pinterest! To be honest, we weren’t really sure what to expect when we first signed up. Sure the statistics were quite impressive, but was it really going to translate to anything? Well, after one year I think we have a verdict… Pinterest has pinned our heart.

Not only does Pinterest give us an outlet to highlight our past projects, but it allows us to explore all the amazing DIY projects out there. If you haven’t connected with us on Pinterest, please feel free to peruse our pin boards as often as you like!

Aside from Pinterest, there are two other new(ish) social media channels that many remodelers and designers are turning to, Houzz and Hometalk. What are they and how do they differ from Pinterest, you ask? Let us explain.

Hometalk is a site devoted to Home Décor, renovations, and remodeling tips. Like Pinterest, pictures play a major part in the functionality of the site. While the photo sharing feature is very similar to Pinterest, its ability to pose questions, share experiences and offer advice is what truly sets Hometalk apart. If you would like to join us on Hometalk, please visit us at: http://www.hometalk.com/riggsconstruction

Now let’s move on to what might just be our favorite social media portal: Houzz! We know what you are probably thinking: “Houzz and Pinterest… one and the same.” Well, not exactly. Pinterest is mainly a breeding ground for DIYers and crafters. Houzz, on the other hand, is filled with architects and designers all over the site. Simply pose a design related question and you will—in most cases—receive an answer.

Want to join us on Houzz? Please visit us at: http://www.houzz.com/pro/riggsconstruction/riggs-construction-design.

In all honesty, we LOVE all three of these sites. If you are currently getting ready to start a remodeling or renovation project, we suggest utilizing all of them.

At RIGGS Company & Design, excellence is more than a habit—it’s a way of life.

Venturing into the world of home remodeling can seem quite daunting. From selecting a color scheme to choosing between vinyl or laminated flooring—your options seem limitless. Recently, many homeowners have turned to the social site Pinterest for design inspiration.

According to AllFacebook.com, Pinterest is now the largest social media channel with over 6 million active users. Pinterest is essentially a virtual corkboard that allows users to “pin” and organize their favorite images from the internet. For example, let’s say you’re looking to remodel your kitchen. You can create a pin-board for each design component (flooring, cabinets, hardware, color etc.) and compile all your favorite ideas. Also, you can explore other members’ pin-boards and simply “repin” anything that tickles your fancy.

We too are now on Pinterest! Our page does more than showcase our past work, but allows our followers to see the creative side of our design team. We have the skills to tackle everything from a simple kitchen facelift to converting your garage into a living space—there is no project we can’t handle!

Don’t have a Pinterest account? We can help! Send an email to riggsconstructiondesign@gmail.com and we’ll send you an invite right away!

We believe the great Aristotle said it best: “We are what we repeatedly do; excellence, then, is not an act but a habit.” At RIGGS Company & Design, excellence is more than a habit—it’s a way of life. If you’re looking for superior home remodeling solutions, please feel free to give us a call or connect with us on Facebook, Twitter and/or Pinterest today!
