Protect your roof this spring

As we get ready to celebrate the birth of spring, it is important that we prepare our homes for the impending seasonal storms. While proper winter prepping will definitely reduce the risk of damage to your home, it doesn’t mean that you are completely protected. In this week’s blog entry, we would like to highlight one of the most vital areas you need to protect… your roof. Roof repair St. Louis

Oftentimes homeowners aren’t able to see a problem with the roof until it’s too late, which typically means that leaks have already begun to appear. To ensure your roof is in tip top condition, we recommend having your roof inspected by a license professional every year.

How do you know it is time to have your roof inspected, you ask?

#1 Age of roof: Many fly-by-night roofing contractors will claim to sell shingles that are GUARANTEED to last 40 years… not true! Even if you inspect your roof seasonally, and take all the proper precautionary measures, we are still at the mercy of Mother Nature. If your roof is more than 10 years old, we suggest having your roof inspected yearly.

#2 After a storm: We don’t care if your roof was installed yesterday, if high winds and hail hit your neighborhood, your roof could be damaged. If a heavy storm wreaks havoc on your community, we recommend—at the very least—bringing your insurance adjuster out to evaluate the damage.

#3 Winter: After a long and blustery winter, it is always a great idea to have your roof inspected. The thawing and refreezing of snow and ice can cause your shingles to separate, thus resulting in leaks. Obviously you can’t control Mother Nature, but you can help minimize the damage. If your attic is properly insulated you can—in most cases—dramatically reduce the impact of ice damming.

Remember: do not—under any circumstance—try to get up on your own roof. This spring, let the team at RIGGS help you ensure that your roof is in great shape. Call today with any questions you may have about your roof or to schedule a time for an inspection.
